Love in Action

This is a compelling story. We have known the Mondok family for several years and still feel moved to read this. You can click the link to go to the whole story. ON the surface this may sound strange, but please enjoy this story.

Saving the Life of a Shaken Baby
Byron and Susan Mondoks' adoption of their granddaughter, abused by her birth father, unearths the meaning of love in action.

Addendum

Habari Tena,

As we asked you to pray for the Dulos Conference we are hearing of a severe storm on the East Coast of the United States; which includes Virginia where the Newport News team is flying out of on Sunday. We just heard that many flights are being canceled as of Friday evening, please be in prayer for the team and their travel.

Blessings! --Ed

Prayer Update

Dear Friends,

A couple weeks ago we asked you to pray as Pastor Stephen in Kisumu was experiencing the fallout from a false prophet causing a lot of destruction among the Luo people. I spoke with Stephen and ask you to join us in praising God as many of the people he has been working with are now seeing the importance of simple verse by verse expository teaching. Because of the damage caused by the so called prophet many are now asking Stephen to organize the studies into a functioning church as soon as possible. Please pray as he begins looking for a hall for the group to begin meeting in. We rejoice that God is bringing victory in this area that just a few weeks ago looked very bad. Lord willing Calvary International Fellowship in Kisumu will be meeting for services by Easter.

Next Thursday, Friday and Saturday are going to be the Dulos Conference hosted at Calvary International Fellowship. Please pray that the invited church leaders are ministered to and for the team from Newport News, VA, to arrive safely.

Thank you for praying! We see much availed from your effective and fervent prayer.

Blessings!

Friday afternoon at CIF...

Kelli doing a one on one Bible study with Milsa.

John finding some quite time.

A lorry of marram was brought to fill in some areas around the church.

We came out of prayer meeting to find these pests eating at a rubbish pile outside the church fence.

Prayer Update...

Dear Friends,

Please be in prayer for the upcoming Dulos conference we are partnering with Calvary Chapel Newport News to hold at Calvary International Fellowship. We are getting a lot of reservations and plans are coming together. Pray we would be sensitive to the leading of God’s Spirit.

Please thank God with us and pray as finishing work continues on the buildings. We are using real toilets!

Shalom!

Map

Playing with map for the prayer update got me looking back at the church site in Githurai from Google Maps. The CIF plot should be right in the center with a small square icon. If you can not discern it, click the map button in the upper right and it should label CIF.

The photo is an old satellite image that does not show the rapid growth of Githurai in the last couple years, or the buildings now on the CIF plot. It does show Thika Road, also called A2, that after widening will be the largest highway in East Africa and the main corridor for all north south traffic.

Prayer Update

Dear Friends,

Please be in prayer as Calvary International Fellowship is in high gear of preparations to host the Dulos conference in partnership with Calvary Chapel Newport News next month. We were blessed to have more than 40 people show up to volunteer for the various teams needed to host the conference for church leaders based on servant leadership. This week we are focusing on getting the word out to churches and others and request your prayer.

Please pray for Jackson as he heads out to a village near Bungoma for a week of house building with a team from his school. As you can imagine, a team of sophomores in a remote Kenyan village could be incredibly productive in the building of homes and a God glorifying light in the darkness.

Oh, praise God with us as Jackson’s hockey team won their opening game this week!

Shalom!

Prayer Update

Dear Friends,
Please continue to pray for the work here in Kenya. There were deaths as Muslims rioted in Nairobi and Mombasa over the governments attempted deportation of Muslim cleric Al-Faisal. It appears the Somali Al-Shabaab group was an instigator in the violence. It was only one day of rioting and only a few deaths, but we do not know if this is an anomaly or a signal of future tensions. Regardless, please pray that Jesus would intervene, save souls and reign in hearts of the people.
Please pray for Pastor Stephen, his family and the work in Kisumu. A false prophet has been preaching horrible things and causing a lot of division. Just as Pastor Stephen is hoping for an Easter launch of Sunday services for the new Calvary International Fellowship this false prophet has been declaring that all people in others churches are going to hell and that people will die unless they give to his church. I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Stephen reprots there has been a falling away from the studies as he stands up for Jesus and not for the false prophet. Please pray for the young pastor and for his heart. Please also thank God that He has Stephen, Maureen and little John Mark in that place at this time.
Finally, please pray as Kelli is praying about joining in with some of the medical relief teams heading to Haiti. Nothing is confirmed, but her skills and preparation here in Kenya will certainly be advantageous in that setting.
Please continue to pray for the work here. God is continuing His work and Jesus is being exalted in Githurai and Kisumu.
Shalom!

Answered Prayer...

We asked you to pray for rain and we've had it. We asked you to pray for the temporary building and we have it. Here they are together, with Kelli. While we still need more rain, the last couple days have brought so much rain that there is minor flooding in Githurai. We are not complaining. While Calvary International Fellowship's buildings are way above the water line, we needed to wade through 150cm of water to get to the outhouses. We rejoice for the buildings and for the rain.

Prayer Update...

Dear Friends,

Thank you for continuing to pray for us and the work here in Githurai. God continues to bless, we continue to see His hand at work and we rejoice as we begin another year together with Him and you.

Please pray thanksgiving as Calvary International Fellowship enjoys meeting in the metal building. Please continue to pray as the toilets are completed and we can relegate the outhouses to a thing of the past! Please pray with us as we seek God and His desire for a new Community Group (home study) on the 44 side of Githurai.

Please pray as we plan and prepare for what we are calling the Dulos conference. Please pray as Calvary International Fellowship will host pastors and leaders for this special gathering in February and that the exercise in holding the three day conference will in itself build servant leaders.

Finally, please pray Haley can find just the right job as she begins her second term at UCSB. She has had some interviews and such, but nothing is firm so it would bring peace to mom knowing people are praying her through this part of her re-entry to America.

Shalom!
